Guys, when your gal is in distress, what do you do? Gals, how do you help your guy out when he comes to you with a problem? Do either of you ever wonder why you end up in an argument when all you’re trying to do is help each other out? This is exactly why books like Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venusare so insanely popular. Sometimes I wonder if the sexes were created differently for the amusement of some higher being.

Misconceptions are at the heart of many problems between the sexes and as Dr. Cheryl Fraser explains in Part 2 of our “He Thinks, She Thinks” series, the common dilemma introduced above results from the simple fact that men and women use the act of talking to serve different purposes. Fellas, you don’t have to try and read our minds anymore (we know you can’t!), just follow Dr. Cheryl’s advise and your nights on the couch will be a thing of the past.

Who isn’t under stress these days?
As promised, here is the first of our “He Thinks, She Thinks” segments, where we translate what the opposite sex means when they say or do something. The words used may sound the same, but we all know that men and women inevitably misinterpret one another. Hopefully with our series, there’ll be a lot less fightin’ and a lot more lovin’ in the world!

Today we’re breaking down two very contentious phrases:

1. “I’m fine”
2. “I’m not in the mood”

Enjoy!

Have you ever taken a holiday with your hubby in an effort to rekindle that flame that has fizzled out under the stresses of your day-to-day life, only to come back more tense and dissatisfied? If you answered “yes,” and don’t know why, watch Dr. Cheryl’s latest video. There is a logical explanation as to why so many couples are faced with this dilemma, and some sensible suggestions that will jump start your relationship and help you “remember why you love him/her.” As our experienced psychologist explains, “the love’s still there…it’s just covered by all the stress.”

According to a reputable research study reported in The New England Journal of Medicine yesterday, yes it is! But hold on now, don’t panic. Before you pull out your hazmat suit, you’ll be relieved to know that your body is already built with antibodies to fight off this epidemic…it’s called self-awareness and will power.

That’s right. Just because a 32-year study says that you’re more likely to be obese if your best friend is doesn’t mean that it validates your lifestyle or diet. I know it’s easy to say “there’s nothing I can do about it because it’s been scientifically proven that my chances of being obese are high,” but keep in mind that it only says that you are predisposed, NOT to be mistaken with predestined.

It does explain a few things though, as psychologist Dr. Cheryl Fraser elaborates on in the video. You can’t fix it if you don’t know what’s broke, so hopefully this will help you identify the root cause of your problem and better equip you to fight it.

Dr. Cheryl Fraser is an award-winning clinical psychologist and sex therapist. If she sounds familiar to you, that’s because she was the wildly popular sexpert from The Dr. Cheryl Show on CFUN 1410 AM. I know you’ve missed her on the airwaves, but now she’s back! This segment is just the first of many more to come so check in and check in often!

For the scoop on Dr. Cheryl, read on…

Dr. Cheryl Fraser
Media Psychologist & Passion Coach

Biography from www.BecomePassion.com:

Sharp, frank, and fearless – that’s psychologist Dr. Cheryl Fraser. Often described as “the ass-kicking therapist,” it’s her rare combination of academic credibility, humour, straight-talk and irreverent radical interventions that make her a sought-after expert for TV, radio, and print. Dr. Cheryl is a woman who is just as comfortable retelling the story of her very first orgasm (let’s just say it involved an electric Snoopy toothbrush!) as she is confronting the intense and painful emotions of dealing with divorce.

Whether it’s giving advice on love, sex and dating for more than 200 episodes of her daily talk radio show, appearing on W’s “The Shopping Bags,” CBC’s “Marketplace” and the VTV “Breakfast Show,” or being interviewed for “Elle Magazine” and “Women’s World,” Dr. Cheryl is known for her ability to cut through to the core of the problem and prescribe innovative interventions for radical results.

In terms of academic chops, Dr. Cheryl is a Registered Clinical Psychologist with a PhD in psychology from Simon Fraser University, where she won the Dean’s medal as the top Doctoral Candidate in the school and almost $100,000 in scholarships and awards. She completed her post doctorate training at the University of California, San Francisco Medical School as a scholar in the world-renowned Fulbright Fellowship Program.

As an actor and comedian, Dr. Cheryl was a founding member of “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” Vancouver’s pre-eminent sketch comedy and improv troupe, and she was a regular performer with Vancouver Theatresports.

Just to round off Dr. Cheryl’s diverse background, she’s also a dedicated student and practitioner of Buddhism and meditation and in 2000 she completed a 3-month silent meditation retreat in winter in an Ontario cabin, with no power or water. You read that right – 3 months – absolutely silent.

She has hung out in India with the Dalai Lama and Richard Gere, and she currently has a busy private psychotherapy practice where she specializes in sex therapy, relationship therapy, and Buddhist psychology – with both individuals and couples.

Oh yeah and in her spare time, Dr. Cheryl conducts Seminars, Weekend Intensives and Bedroom Bootcamps that will take a stale, stuck relationship and create sizzle, thrill and connection, turning a dud into a stud and a good girl into a goddess!

Relationships, sex, and the meaning of life – everything is fair game with psychologist Dr. Cheryl Fraser.
