Movie Review by Perry Pannu: Mr. Bean’s Holiday The charm of Mr. Bean comes through when he does what he does best…physical comedy. His own brand of humour transcends language because his actions are universal. That’s why he has such a broad appeal, from young children to the elderly, across the globe. With his first movie, Bean: The Movie I was wrong. Mr. Bean’s Holiday brings back the classic character that the world fell in love with. There are some scenes with people speaking Russian and French (with English subtitles) but other than that, dialogue is kept to minimum. I have to say, this movie is a huge improvement. The story is simple: Mr. Bean wins a holiday to the south of France, and one misunderstanding after another pushes the ‘plot’ along. At the beginning, he also wins a camcorder with his trip so that during the course of the movie, we see him experiencing his holiday from the camcorder’s point of view. As you can imagine, such images end up being shakier than even the camera work in The Bourne Ultimatum. Luckily, it usually stops before it gives you a headache. If you and your family are fans of Mr. Bean, I recommend you take your whole lot to see this one in the theatre (on Tuesday). The Grandparents and kids will love it. If you are not a fan, I still think you should wait for it to come out on DVD. It’s a simple, fun, family movie and the best part is that all the funny parts are not in the trailer (in fact, some scenes from the trailer have ended up on the cutting room floor). Oh! And don’t forget to stay put once the movie wraps up. At the end of the credit roll, you’ll be treated with one final clip. Leave a Reply |
